It’s hard enough being a small business owner, but add in the current state of the economy and it can be overwhelming. Businesses are closing every day because they can no longer meet the financial demand of running your own enterprise. Well here’s a novel idea for you… Don’t pay for design services anymore! I’m talking web design, print design, video, social media branding, the whole shebang.
Now before you think I just went off the deep end, hear me out. I am not saying to avoid creditors and neglect to pay for services already rendered. But what I am saying is look for opportunities to BARTER for your web and print design needs. Don’t be afraid to tap into your clientele, you’d be surprised by the amount of expertise you have right in your gym. Offer some free classes or personal training in exchange for website development or video editing. Offer to write out a personal training regiment or diet for them if they will brand your Facebook or Twitter pages with custom graphics.
Teenagers are an excellent source when it comes to technology, especially social media. Both of my kids spend way more time than I would like on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. But the point is, they know how to use it! The next time you need to set up a Facebook account, ask one of the teens you are training every week. They do it all the time! Offer them some free training in exchange for their help. Trust me they will jump at the opportunity. Now don’t get me wrong, I would not turn my whole gym’s social media marketing over to a teenager; but there is nothing wrong with using their expertise to help you get the ball rolling. Once you have the account setup, you can take over the day-to-day social media duties.
I know this works because I have done it. I have gotten plenty of products and services for free because I have designed a website or some Facebook graphics for someone as payment. I get my grass cut every Spring and Summer, and my leaves raked every Fall for free! And in exchange I developed and maintain the lawn care company’s website as well as some other graphic design work for them. It’s really a win-win situation!
So the next time you are looking to get a video filmed or a Twitter account set up for your gym, look around you the resources you are looking for could be right in your gym!
